Unveiled in March 2025, the ID.Every1 is the missing piece of Volkswagen’s new "Electric Urban Family Car." This 100% electric hatchback, measuring 3,880 mm in length, is targeting a base price of around €20,000 when the production version arrives in 2027. Its mission: to democratize electromobility, as the Beetle once did for internal combustion vehicles.
The design of the ID.Every1 is based on three pillars: stability, appeal, and a “secret sauce.” The wide-set fenders that envelop the 19-inch rims and the sturdy C-pillar visually lower the car, reinforcing the presence of its compact dimensions (3,880 mm long by 1,816 mm wide). For comparison, the ID.Every1 emerges as the urban little sister of the ID.4: it shares the MEB platform and evolving software, but in a smaller package and at a significantly more accessible price.
The “secret sauce” is its flying roof: the roof lowers in the centre, then extends toward the rear to form an aerodynamic crease. This fold features a perfectly integrated third brake light, while the floating ends reduce turbulence — a detail that is both aesthetic and functional.
At the front, LED headlamps that “look” and vertical daytime running lights give it a bold smile; at the rear, vertical reflectors echo this signature, complemented by backlit VW logos to enhance the concept's playful character.
Upon opening the four doors, you will be welcomed in a bright cabin with soft surfaces made of recycled fabrics (PET) and speckled “terrazzo” inserts, creating a warm lounge ambiance. The horizontal dashboard is arranged around a central touchscreen; underneath, physical buttons dedicated to temperature, heated seats, and volume simplify everyday life.
On the passenger side, a rail allows for clipping in a tablet or creating a tablet shelf, turning the dashboard into a mini mobile office. The flat two-spoke steering wheel features square buttons, also used for controlling the rearview mirrors and even for a removable Bluetooth speaker placed between the front seats.
The centre console slides on a rail to the rear seats, reveals retractable trays, and increases storage for all occupants. Finally, the front seats and bench fold completely, providing an almost flat floor or a secure space for a pet. The ID.Every1 adapts to multiple needs, ready for everyday adventures.
In addition to the floating roof, Volkswagen relies on new software architecture capable of lifetime OTA updates. Developed in partnership with Rivian, it reduces the number of control units and simplifies the wiring harness, ensuring reliability and lower costs.

At €20,000, the ID.Every1 promises to be one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the European market, positioned below the ID.2all (25,000 €). Its manufacturing in Europe avoids import fees and supports Volkswagen’s goal of offering nine new electric models by 2027 while remaining the “people’s car.”
| Model | Base price | Estimated range | Segment |
|---|---|---|---|
| ID.Every1 (concept) | €20,000 | ≈ 250 km | Subcompact hatchback |
| ID.2all (2026) | €25,000 | ≈ 450 km | Compact hatchback |
| ID.3 (2025) | €35,000 | 426 to 559 km | Compact hatchback |
| ID.4 (2025) | €48,000 | 400 to 520 km | Compact SUV |
Thus, the ID.Every1 opens the ID lineup to an audience that has been previously excluded due to price, while retaining design and technology on par with Volkswagen’s flagship models.
Volkswagen currently confirms an exclusively European launch. There is no planned launch date for the model in Canada, where certification standards and market size complicate the profitability of such an affordable vehicle. Nevertheless, its potential success might prompt VW to reconsider its North American strategy in the medium term.
