Expected since 2017 as the first electric SUV from the Volkswagen brand, the ID.4 will enter production in late 2020 in Germany. The US and Canadian version will be built at the Chattanooga plant, in Tennessee, in early 2021.
Based on the concept car ID. Crozz, the ID.4 is a compact 5-passenger SUV with slightly smaller proportions than the Tiguan. Four adults can sit in it very comfortably. The fifth passenger will have significantly more legroom than a traditional SUV, thanks to the absence of a transmission tunnel and the batteries' location under the floor.

The very refined design of the bodywork follows the guideline of the new brand image. The aerodynamics have been thought to allow the vehicle to maximize its range. The front and rear bumpers are smooth and have design elements that connect the headlight optics to create an impression of purity in the lines. Finally, the black body elements as well as the huge tinted panoramic roof enhance the avant-garde character of the ID.4 and echo the minimalist interior.
The use of the versatile MEB platform will allow the ID.4 to be available in a rear-wheel drive version with a 200hp engine and in a 4Motion version with the addition of a second 100hp engine. We can also expect several choices of battery packs that will offer more or less autonomy. Currently, a range of around 500 kilometers has been announced with the 2-engine version totaling 300hp.

It is obvious that the autonomy of an electric vehicle is one of the most important characteristics to consider. However, the charging capacity should not be overlooked. The VW ID.4 can easily be recharged overnight on domestic charging stations (which represents more than 70% of buyers' habits). When traveling, the 125kWh terminals will allow an 80% recharge in less than 35 minutes, which is very significant on long journeys.
Few details have been officially announced by Volkswagen regarding the technological innovations that will be available in the future VW ID.4. However, the presence of an updated version of the Cockpit Digital or even improved voice recognition has been confirmed. We also expect the presence of the Head Up Display in augmented reality as will be the case in ID.3, or even intelligent lighting ID.Light.

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to arrive in Quebec in the first half of 2021. Until then, stay tuned for news by following our blog.
