The seven-seat Volkswagen Atlas was refreshed for 2021 with enhanced styling and features, but it does not change what owners rave about most—cabin space and power. The Atlas has an advanced drivetrain with 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive, which helps you in challenging road conditions. Here, we highlight a few other reasons why the Atlas is an excellent SUV.
The Comfortline and Highline receive the choice of four- and six-cylinder options. Available is the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can also select a naturally aspirated six-cylinder that generates 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The former engine also powers the Execline, the highest-grade model.
All trims match up with an eight-speed automatic transmission with advanced features such as Start/Stop and regenerative braking. 4MOTION AWD is there to not only add performance in challenging conditions, but optimal road conditions as well.
Inside, the Atlas features flexible cargo space that extends up to 2,741 litres. Combined with fold-down seating, this offers families many options to transport their lifestyles. The Atlas still has 1,572 litres of cargo volume behind the second row and with the third row folded--more than the entire capacity of some compact SUVs!
There isn't a shortage of headroom, legroom and shoulder room, and the Atlas features the greatest amount of third-row legroom in its class. The interior's standard 60/40 split-folding second row and state-of-the-art infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay add more comfort, flexibility and convenience.
All models include a package of active safety features. Beginning with the base Trendline, models receive Hill Descent Control, Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Electronic Stability Control and more.
Park Distance Control (front and rear sensors), Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and rearview camera with dynamic guidance lines are added beginning with the Comfortline.
Other versions extend active safety capabilities with Area View 360°, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Lane (keeping) Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. This variant also gets the Fender Premium Audio System with 12 speakers plus subwoofer and the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit (instrument cluster).
