Scheduled to go on sale this fall, the VW Jetta Hybrid is a parallel hybrid similar to what is found in the Touareg Hybrid, meaning that it can run on electricity, gas, or a combination of both.
Also unveiled in Detroit was the Volkswagen E-Bugster Concept. This 2-passenger, zero-emission variant of the Beetle uses an 85 kW electric motor for 0-100 km/h sprints of 10.9 seconds, and a 28.3 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows a range of about 180 km.

The E-Bugster Concept features a regenerative braking system that converts kinetic energy into electricity to extend the range. Charging can be done through a regular 120V outlet as well.
